Teresa Mayr is a scholar of Art and Cultural Studies and visual artist. They are currently completing their PhD at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, focusing on the Swedish artist Hilma af Klint. Central to their research is af Klint’s spiritualist background, with the identity of the spiritualist medium being framed as more-than-human and situated within a queer-feminist tradition, alongside Donna Haraway’s concept of cyborg monsters. Mayr combines methodologies from Critical History, Feminist and Queer Studies, and Art History to critically interrogates dominant narratives and contribute to the development of a transdisciplinary art history. Their dissertation is funded by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation.
Mayr has recently published essays in Atlas der Datenkörper 2 (Transcript Verlag), in Matter: Journal of New Materialist Research (University of Barcelona), and Working Titles: Journal for Practice-Based Research (Bauhaus-Universität Weimar). In 2024, Mayr was appointed to a teaching position at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.
